A scam is a deceptive scheme aimed at making money or gaining an advantage, often by deceiving individuals. A key characteristic of scams is the request of payment in advance without fulfilling the promised services or rewards. It is essential to differentiate legitimate business practices, such as "money rolling," where investments generate profits, from scams that exploit trust for personal gain.
Scammers contact you via WhatsApp off ering a part-time job. They instruct you to engage in activities on an online shopping app and share screenshots with them. After the initial tasks, they propose investment packages to support online sellers. For example, if you choose the RM50 package, you will get RM60 in return, if you choose the RM100 package, you will get RM110 in return. The scammer provides bank details for you to deposit money, promising a higher return. Beware, subsequent transactions may encounter "errors," requiring more payments.
Scammers promise three months of cashback on your postpaid bill. They confirm your subscription using your phone number and a 6-digit pin or OTP will be sent to you and the scammers will ask for this information. If you provide the details, your postpaid credit limit is reduced. This scam targets unsuspecting telecom users and can lead to financial loss.
Fraudulent messages from scammers who impersonate themselves as agencies from LHDN, Customs, or Police claim you have summons or a restricted parcel. You are urged to contact them for further details and asked to make payments over the phone for the alleged fines or parcel release. Most of the time, people who become victim for this type of scam are those whose parcels took a long time to arrive
